Companies House filing

File a client's accounts with Companies House from their page.

The filing copy of the accounts (the balance sheet and notes, as section 444 allows for a small company) goes to Companies House through its software filing service under the firm's presenter account, with the company's authentication code. Companies House acknowledges it at once and says accept or reject, usually within the hour. Both are kept, since they are the firm's proof.

The message itself is never kept: it carried the codes. What is kept is the submission, the acknowledgement and the acceptance.

    Why Minns

    Three things to know first.

From the page, not a portal
The accounts come out of accounts production approved; filing is one step on the client's page, under the firm's presenter account, with the authentication code the firm holds for the company.
    The reply is the proof
Companies House's acknowledgement and its acceptance or rejection are kept on the client's file with the submission. A rejection says why, so it can be put right and sent again.
    The date closes itself
Accepted, the accounts row on the deadlines board closes, and the next year's date is already there from the register.
    What it does

    The filing, end to end.

    • The filing copy

The balance sheet and the notes a small company may file, from the approved accounts, as iXBRL on the FRC taxonomy and validated.

    • The presenter account

The firm's own, set once. Every filing goes out under it, with the company's authentication code.

    • The acknowledgement

Companies House's receipt at once, kept with the submission.

    • Accept or reject

Asked for and read back, usually within the hour. Accepted closes the row; rejected says why and waits for a person.

    • The register follows

The accounts made up to date on the register updates, and the next accounts date on the board comes from it.

    A filing

    From approval to acceptance.

    1. 01

      The accounts are approved

By the directors as the facts record, and by a named person at the firm against the pages they saw.

    2. 02

      The filing copy is prepared

What section 444 allows: the balance sheet and notes, as validated iXBRL.

    3. 03

      Sent under the presenter account

Through the software filing service with the company's authentication code. The acknowledgement is kept.

    4. 04

      Accepted

Companies House's answer, usually within the hour, kept on the file. The row on the board closes.

    Questions a practice asks first

    Straight answers.

Do we need our own presenter account?
Yes. The firm's presenter account with Companies House is set once and every filing goes out under it. We help you apply for one if the firm does not have it.
    What is filed?
The filing copy the Companies Act allows: for a small company the balance sheet and notes, as iXBRL. The full accounts go to the members as PDF.
What if Companies House rejects it?
The rejection and its reason are kept on the file and a person is told. The accounts are corrected, approved again and sent again.
    Does it file confirmation statements?
The confirmation statement date is on the board and chased. Ask us where we are with filing it from the page.

File the next set from the client's page.

Tell us whether the firm has a presenter account. We file the demo company's accounts to the test service first.
