Xero Practice Manager is now part of Xero Partner Hub: what it means for a practice.
By Jonathan Farrow, founder. Reviewed by: to be confirmed (qualified accountant). Last reviewed 23 October 2026.
Xero has brought Xero Practice Manager (XPM) and Xero HQ together as Xero Partner Hub. This page sets out what changed and when, what it costs, what stays the same, what to check, and what the retirement of XPM's older API means for the apps that connect to it, in Xero's own words where they matter. It ends with how Minns works with both: keep Xero and Partner Hub, and add Minns.
In short
- What changed
- XPM's jobs, time and billing and Xero HQ's client and staff tools are now in one product, Xero Partner Hub, with a new homepage and menus.
- When
- Early access opened "since December"; other practices moved "from mid-June". Xero gives no year for either. On 23 October 2026 Xero's UK page said Partner Hub "is now live for all".
- Cost
- Xero says there are no associated changes to pricing or the partner programme. Practice Management is free at Silver, Gold or Platinum; otherwise £99 a month for up to 10 users, excluding VAT.
- Apps
- Version 3.0 of the Practice Manager API retires on 30 April 2027. An app still on 3.0 after that date stops working; 3.1 replaces it.
- Minns
- Minns integrates with Xero: it reads each client's books from Xero and checks its trial balance against Xero's. Its XPM sync reads only, on version 3.1, and is not live yet.
XPM and Xero HQ moved into Partner Hub during a year Xero does not name.
Xero's UK page for Partner Hub answers "When will practices move to the new experience?" with two dates, each a month without a year:
“Since December, practices have had the opportunity to opt in to early access. All other practices will be automatically transitioned to Xero Partner Hub from mid-June.”
The same page now opens with "Xero Partner Hub is now live for all." Xero Central's overview says Xero's tools for accountants and bookkeepers are now in one platform. We have not found Xero stating the year of either date, so we do not give one.
December (no year given)
Practices could opt in to early access to Partner Hub.
From mid-June (no year given)
All other practices were to be moved to Partner Hub automatically.
3 September 2026
Practice Manager API 3.1 requires an Accept header on every request, and a Content-Type header on requests with a body. This affects apps, not people using XPM.
23 October 2026
Xero's UK page says Partner Hub "is now live for all", with no associated changes to pricing or the partner programme.
30 April 2027
Practice Manager API 3.0 is retired. Requests to it fail from then on.
Xero HQ held the clients; XPM held the jobs. Partner Hub holds both.
How did Xero HQ and XPM differ? Xero Central's overview answers by saying what each brought into Partner Hub:
| Before | In Xero Partner Hub | |
|---|---|---|
| Clients and staff | Xero HQ: client and staff management | Partner Hub |
| Tax, document packs, templates | Xero HQ: tax, document packs, report and chart of accounts templates | Partner Hub; document packs and report templates under the Practice menu |
| Jobs, time and billing | Xero Practice Manager | Partner Hub + Practice Management, for practices that have it |
| Queries | Queries | "Ask", under the Practice menu |
| Settings and subscriptions | XPM's own menus | The practice name's dropdown menu |
Xero describes Practice Management as "job tracking, task assignment, staff scheduling, time entry and invoicing, work in progress reporting, and customisable job templates and workflows", connected to Partner Hub's client records, Xero Tax and the practice's own Xero accounts. Jobs connect to tax returns in Xero Tax. For proposals, onboarding and document management, Xero points to third-party apps in the Xero App Store.
The price has not changed, Xero says.
“There are no associated changes to pricing, or the partner programme.”
| Practice | What Xero says it pays |
|---|---|
| Silver, Gold or Platinum partner | Included free |
| Bronze, or new to Xero | Free for 14 days, then £99 a month for up to 10 users, excluding VAT |
| Already on Partner Hub without Practice Management | Can add it at any stage, from subscription settings |
Xero says the workflows, the features and access stay the same.
- Features. "All of the core features and functionality you use today in Xero Practice Manager (XPM) and Xero HQ will be available in the new Xero Partner Hub."
- Workflows. "The workflows you're familiar with aren't changing."
- Access. "There's no change to how you access Xero Partner Hub." Practices still turn features on through the partner programme or by subscribing.
- Your firm's own books. A practice can run its own accounts on Xero for free and connect them to Partner Hub; invoices marked paid in Xero show as paid in Partner Hub.
What does look different: a homepage of widgets (an organisation watchlist, bank feed alerts and a jobs and time summary, with bank reconciliation coming), the Practice menu replacing XPM's Business menu and HQ's Practice menu, and JAX, Xero's AI assistant, in beta on the homepage. Xero says a new Workpapers product is coming soon.
Six things for a practice to check.
- Your partner level. Practice Management is free at Silver and above. A Bronze practice pays £99 a month plus VAT for up to 10 users.
- Your team's way round. Settings, subscriptions, queries and report templates have moved. Xero has video guides for practices that used HQ alone and for those that used HQ and XPM.
- Every app connected to XPM. Ask each vendor whether its app uses version 3.1 of the Practice Manager API, and if not, when it will move. An app on 3.0 stops working on 30 April 2027.
- Anything your firm built itself. Scripts, spreadsheets or reports that call the XPM API need moving to 3.1, which uses long identifiers (UUIDs) instead of numbers, and must send an Accept header.
- Proposals, onboarding and documents. Xero leaves these to apps in its App Store. If you used one with XPM, check it with Partner Hub.
- Your own notes. Instructions and checklists that name XPM's or HQ's menus will need the new names.
XPM's version 3.0 API stops working on 30 April 2027.
Apps reach XPM's data through the Practice Manager API. Xero's developer documentation still calls it that, and carries this notice on the 3.0 version:
“Practice Manager 3.0 is deprecated and will be retired on 30 April 2027. After this date, the version 3.0 API will stop working and your requests to it will fail. Migrate to Practice Manager 3.1 before then to keep your integration running.”
Version 3.1 is the replacement. Xero says it swaps whole-number identifiers for UUIDs, answers in XML or JSON, and since 3 September 2026 requires an Accept header on every request. To use either version, an app's maker must register as a Xero app partner and complete a security self-assessment; until then the app cannot ask for Practice Manager access.
For a practice, this matters through its apps. An app that reads or writes XPM's clients, jobs or time on 3.0, and has not moved by 30 April 2027, will stop syncing that day.
Minns reads Xero and XPM, and writes to neither.
Minns integrates with Xero, and is made to sit on top of the software a practice already runs. Keep Xero, and XPM inside Partner Hub, and add Minns: it reads from both and writes to neither, so nothing has to move.
- Books from Xero. Minns reads each client's chart of accounts, opening trial balance, invoices, credit notes, bank transactions, payments and journals from Xero, then checks its trial balance against Xero's to the penny. It writes nothing to Xero.
- XPM, read only. Minns reads XPM's clients, jobs and staff every 30 minutes, or when someone presses Sync now. It sends XPM no changes. While a firm syncs, the fields XPM holds (name, client code, company number, UTR, VAT number, contacts, manager and partner) are read only in Minns.
- On version 3.1 already. Our XPM sync uses version 3.1 of the API and sends the Accept header, so the retirement of 3.0 does not ask us to move it.
- Not live yet. The XPM sync has not yet been run against a live XPM practice, and Xero has to approve our app for Practice Manager access before a firm can connect it. Ask us where that stands before you plan on it.
How we wrote this page
Jonathan Farrow, Minns's founder, wrote this page. A qualified accountant's review is to be confirmed. AI helped draft it; every fact was then checked against its source.
Each fact about Xero comes from Xero's own pages, read on 23 October 2026 and listed below, and is quoted where the wording matters. Where Xero gives a month without a year, so do we. What we say about Minns comes from Minns's code.
If Xero changes its pages, or we have anything wrong, tell us and we will correct this page and change its review date.
Questions a practice asks
- Is Xero Practice Manager being discontinued?
- Not as a set of features. Xero says all of XPM's and Xero HQ's core features are available in Xero Partner Hub. What retires is version 3.0 of the Practice Manager API, on 30 April 2027, which affects apps that connect to XPM.
- When did practices move to Xero Partner Hub?
- Xero says early access opened "since December" and other practices were moved "from mid-June", without a year for either. On 23 October 2026 its UK page said Partner Hub is now live for all.
- Does Xero Partner Hub cost more than XPM?
- Xero says there are no associated changes to pricing. Practice Management is free for Silver, Gold or Platinum partners; otherwise £99 a month for up to 10 users, excluding VAT, after a 14-day trial.
- What is the difference between Xero HQ and Xero Practice Manager?
- Xero HQ held client and staff management, tax, document packs and templates. XPM held jobs, time and billing. Both are now in Xero Partner Hub, XPM's part as Practice Management.
- Will apps connected to XPM stop working?
- Only those still on version 3.0 of the Practice Manager API after 30 April 2027. Ask each app's maker whether it uses 3.1.
- Does Minns work with Xero Partner Hub?
- Minns reads client books from Xero and is built to read XPM's clients, jobs and staff through version 3.1 of the API, writing nothing back. The XPM sync is not live yet: it waits on Xero's approval of our app and a first live test.
